Well we had a great time again this year and hope you all did as well! The activities were a huge hit with everyone so we will continue to expand on these and look forward to comments or suggestions you may have to make this a bigger and better event. Always a big hit! Big Fat Planting Area for kids: The kids were able to choose from a selection of colorful plastic pots and plants to create their own "project plant" for them to care for. The kids loved this and we may just have to keep this up year-round. What do you think?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Big Fat Pumpkins: Cole Pierce, our resident giant pumpkin expert, gave out pumpkin seed liners and taught folks how to nurture a !,000 pound pumpkin! This year we gave out forms for our Giant Pumpkin Contest to those who attended. Bring your pumpkin back to the nursery by Wednesday October 6th and it will be judged on Friday October 8th with the winners revealed on Saturday October 9th during our Fall Tree Sale. Winners with the biggest pumpkin will receive: 1st Place - $300 Gift Certificate 2nd Place - $200 Gift Certificate 3rd Place - $100 Gift Certificate
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Big Fat Exotic Animal Rescue Area: The folks from the Exotic Animal Rescue Foundation brought out some great birds for all to see. This group rescues animals and cares for them when no one else will. What a great service to our wildlife!

Big Fat Tomato Area: Our own Tim Ellis spent the day educating folks on tomatoes and related products. He had a wide selection of plants available along with the popular "Upside Down Tomato Hanger."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kellogg Soil Experts: Thanks so much to Jimmy Rogers from Kellogg products who lent his expertise in preparing and amending soil for your best gardening results. Jimmy is a valuable vendor-partner who always helps out at our special events! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Boy Scouts raise funds: This year we added a local Boy Scout group who offered donuts in the morning and barbequed hot dogs in the afternoon to all our hungry customers and staff. Great job guys!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Big Fat Citrus Tasting: This year we were fortunate to have Bill Heisy from Four Winds Citrus Growers here to discuss his favorite trees. Bill set up his trade mark tasting cart and featured 20 different varieties of citrus for all to sample. Simply a spectacular demonstration. Thanks Bill!

Our new demonstration garden and creek bed got plenty of attention and showed some great ideas on how to use fountains and pots in your landscape.

The annual salsa contest was a success with 16 entries from employees.
