When Life Gives You Lemons...

...you learn how to grow them!

What a DAY!!

We want to give a big Thank You to all of you who attended The Big Squeeze this last Saturday! I think it was a big hit…everyone had great questions and Pam Plemmons had yet another terrific seminar for the group. She is always a crowd favorite, giving so many tips and details in a fun and engaging presentation…we sure appreciate her visit!

The fruit tasting was also a hit, with samples of grapefruit, lemon, mandarin, tangerine, navel oranges and blood orange, all provided by Kings River Packing. We want to give a shout-out to them for helping us again this year with their generous donation of tasty fruit! Everyone was thrilled to sample before they decided on a variety of their own.

Did you know??

  • California’s citrus production is one of the state’s best examples of utilizing Integrated Pest Management - by monitoring chemical use and preventing resistance by overuse.
  • The Bearss lime (Persian Lime) was developed in 1895 by John T Bearss, at his nursery in Porterville, CA. The tree is nearly thornless, fruit is larger than the Key lime and seedless, and is hardy to 32°F.
  • The Satsuma mandarin is the signature citrus crop for Placer County, and are available from November through January.
  • The Buddah’s Hand citron is very versatile, for a room freshener, candied and making Buddahchello…not bitter at all!
